Role Overview
As a Consultant in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), you will provide senior clinical expertise and take ultimate responsibility for the comprehensive care pathway of all patients admitted under your name. You will operate independently within your approved clinical privileges to diagnose, treat, and manage critical neonatal cases. Aligning with HMCโs vision to excel as an Academic Health System, you will also lead junior medical teams, drive clinical research, and champion medical education to continuously elevate the quality of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Ultimate Accountable Care: Assume direct responsibility for patients under your medical attendance; independently diagnose, treat, manage, and admit patients within your approved clinical privileges.
- Clinical Operations: Conduct daily inpatient rounds, deliver comprehensive treatment plans in the NICU, and provide expert screening, examinations, and follow-up care for outpatients.
- On-Call Rotation: Participate actively in scheduling on-call duties and provide reliable on-call services.
- Inter-Departmental Expert: Provide specialized clinical guidance, counsel, and consultations to other hospital departments and serve on departmental/hospital committees to upgrade services.
Team Management & Administration
- Medical Staff Supervision: Oversee unit medical staff, manage junior team members, and prepare regular service activity reports for the Department Head or Chairman.
- Medical Records Management: Write, complete, and verify detailed medical records, patient charts, and clinical reports.
- Resource Assessment: Actively participate in auditing, updating, and planning for drug, medical supply, and advanced equipment needs.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all HMC policies, strategic programs, and Revalidation guidelines and standards.
Academic Health & Research
- Education & Training: Execute practical clinical training and academic responsibilities; contribute directly to the planning and delivery of medical education and health education programs.
- Research Initiatives: Conduct scientific research aligned with the organization’s Academic Health System goals, in full compliance with clinical trial and research governance systems.
- Patient Advocacy: Ensure NICU patients and families fully understand their healthcare rights and responsibilities, and have voluntary access to clinical research.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Educational Background
- Medical Qualification: Western Qualification (e.g., UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or equivalent), Arab Board Qualification, or an equivalent recognized international board certification (e.g., from Jordan, India, Sudan).
- Specialization: Board certification in Neonatology, OR a Specialty in Pediatrics with a formal Subspecialty in Neonatology.
Required Clinical Experience
- For Western Qualification Holders: A minimum of 1 year of post-qualification clinical experience in Neonatology or Pediatrics within a dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
- For Arab Board / Other Board Holders: A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification clinical experience within a dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
- Licensing: Hold a valid medical license or registration from your home country, and maintain eligibility for professional licensing with the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar.
