QatarEnergy is hiring a Senior Electrical Technician in Qatar. This role leads and coordinates a team of technicians who carry out routine electrical maintenance, major overhauls and emergency breakdown repairs. The work covers the electrical systems in Gas Distribution Stations, which support the company’s gas distribution facilities. The senior technician also takes part in the hands-on work and helps keep the equipment running safely and efficiently.

Main responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate and join in the maintenance, overhaul and breakdown repair of 33 kV, 11 kV, 3.3 kV and 415 V distribution networks.
  • Look after the associated switchgear and control systems within Gas Distribution Stations.
  • Work on a wide range of plant, including emergency diesel generators, explosion-protected high and low voltage motors, transformers, lighting systems, fire water pumps, motor-operated valve actuators, protective relays, UPS systems, rectifier and battery chargers, and cathodic protection systems.
  • Make sure the preventative maintenance programmes generated in SAP are carried out, and help improve current and future programmes.
  • Make sure safe working procedures are followed at all times, including proper isolation of switches, secure ladders and correctly posted warning notices.
  • Make sure the technicians you supervise follow QatarEnergy’s safety procedures.

Failing to follow these procedures can lead to unsafe plant conditions, equipment failure and significant revenue losses, so safety and discipline are central to this role.

Experience and skills required

  • At least 15 years of experience after formal training or an apprenticeship, covering the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of low, medium and high voltage rotating, control and protection equipment.
  • A thorough knowledge of the standards for electrical equipment and plant installed in hazardous areas.
  • Strong skills in fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of complex electrical logic and relay control systems.
  • At least two years in a supervisory role.

Education and qualifications

  • Completion of secondary education (12 years), followed by two years of formal training at ordinary national diploma level or equivalent. The training should cover high, medium and low voltage switchgear, and control and protection relays.
  • Short courses in safety and hazardous areas.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations.
