QatarEnergy is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer for its Unified Communications team in Doha, Qatar. This is a senior technical role for a professional with more than 10 years of experience. The engineer will design, build, run and improve secure, reliable and scalable voice, video and collaboration services for the business, keeping them available, fast, secure and up to date with agreed standards and performance targets.
A senior systems engineer in unified communications usually owns complex systems end to end. The work often includes designing system architecture, troubleshooting call problems, planning upgrades and migrations, leading recovery after major outages, and guiding junior engineers.
Main responsibilities
- Provide senior technical leadership across hybrid and cloud communication environments.
- Prepare architecture designs, technical documents and operating procedures.
- Design, troubleshoot and manage enterprise voice from start to finish.
- Manage the lifecycle and security of communication systems, including automation.
- Lead migrations, disaster recovery planning and responses to major incidents.
- Coordinate with carriers and vendors, and coach technical colleagues.
- Assess and integrate cloud calling, contact centre, smart meeting room, analytics and AI-enabled tools, following rules on security, privacy, data governance and responsible AI.
Experience and skills
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in enterprise unified communications, including seven years of hands-on work with complex, high-availability systems.
- Experience in business-critical industrial settings, especially oil and gas, is preferred.
- Expert knowledge of SIP, session border controllers and end-to-end voice troubleshooting.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Teams voice, including Direct Routing, dial plans, call routing, calling policies and emergency calling.
- Expert hands-on experience with Cisco UC platforms, including CUCM, CUBE and voice gateways. Contact centre experience with UCCX or modern cloud platforms is desirable.
- Packet-level troubleshooting of SIP, SDP and RTP call flows, using tools such as Wireshark.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, and strong PowerShell and automation skills.
- Good understanding of UC security, including certificates, encryption, voice-fraud controls and Zero Trust.
- Working knowledge of network services that affect real-time communication, such as TCP/IP, DNS, QoS and firewalls.
- Ability to write high-level and low-level designs, standards, procedures and executive reports, and to support budgets and vendor evaluations.
Education and certifications
- A bachelor’s degree in network, computer, electrical or electronic engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- A current professional certification in enterprise collaboration, such as Cisco CCNP Collaboration or a recognised Microsoft Teams, session border controller or cloud communications certification, is preferred.
The role is hands-on and senior, and it involves close work with stakeholders, carriers and vendors across the organisation.
